Christian Reformed Church Synod Adopts Belhar Confession as an Ecumenical Faith Declaration

Instead of attempting to explain what happened at the CRC Synod this past week, I will simply include a link to The Banner article by Roxanne Van Farowe entitled, Belhar Gets Official Status, but Not as a Confession. If you are not familiar with the Belhar Confession, you can visit my Belhar Confession page right here on my blog.

    Hey Jack,

I was a delegate at Synod this year. I was quite disappointed with the outcome as I had hoped for this to be adopted as a confession. I was on the Belhar study committee and it took much work but we came up with a unified report. It was on the floor that some things got messed with. Ah well. It is all a journey.

    Blessings,

Good to hear from you brother! While I have mixed feelings–with disappointment tempering gratitude–about the decision, I do think that we at least stumbled in the direction of supporting, extending and perhaps doing somewhat better at demonstrating God’s reign of unity, reconciliation, and justice in the world.

Again, good to hear from you and thank you for the work you did and are doing.

    Shalom!

    Jack
